Larry is a St. Croix sheep. St. Croix are a breed of tropical or 'hair' sheep, this means that they do not have wool, they have hair coats. Sometimes people think hair sheep are goats, but goats wear their tails up in the air, a sheep's tail hangs down.

Larry was an orphan or 'bum' lamb, his mother died before he was an hour old. Here is a picture of Larry taken just after his mother died. He looks sad.
Larry was raised on a bottle by his Auntie Jojo and I, Jojo is a Jack Russell terrier dog. In this picture you can see Larry is happy. He is just a few days old.

By the time Larry was about three months old he had two little friends. Lois and LeRoy are younger than Larry so Larry got to be the Big Brother. The three lambs liked to run around and play, they also liked to take naps together. In this picture LeRoy is in front, little Lois is in the middle and Larry is at the back wearing his red collar.

In the next picture Larry is about six months old, almost grown up. He is in a small paddock with a group of other lambs born the same year. Larry is wearing his collar. When they are old enough they will go to the big pasture with the main flock.

Most orphan lambs are happy to join a flock and be sheep when they grow up. Not Larry. He lay by the gate and cried. He would not go and eat with the other sheep. He lost so much weight and was so unhappy, after a week I put him in the car & brought him home again. He is a Mama's boy house sheep.

Larry loves me, and Jojo, but his favorite thing is food. He is especially fond of plain bagels, carrots and chicken food, which can be found in the henyard. He also likes to take a gentle stroll on his leash while eating grass on the side of the lane. Larry likes to come in the house which is forbidden, he is just too big now, but sometimes a door will be left open ... and he still wears a collar.
